About CoverageForPets
CoverageForPets is a guide site. It exists for one reason: pet insurance is genuinely useful to some owners and genuinely confusing to almost everyone, and the confusion is not the reader's fault. Policy documents are written in insurance language. We translate them.
What we do
We publish plain-language guides that explain how pet insurance works, what it covers, what drives the price, and how to compare plans fairly. Over time we are adding guides organized the way owners actually ask their questions: by breed, by health condition, and by cost. Where a guide points you onward, it points to the insurer's own quote form, where you can see a price estimate for your own pet with settings you choose.
We compare and explain. We do not sell insurance, we do not process claims, and we cannot tell you which policy is right for your pet. That last part matters, and we mean it: whether to insure, and which plan to pick, depends on your pet's health history, your budget, and how much risk you are comfortable carrying yourself. Our guides give you the understanding to make that call. They are not a substitute for it.
How we make money
CoverageForPets is reader-supported through affiliate commissions. When you follow a link from this site to an insurer and request a quote, the insurer may pay us a commission for the referral. The commission comes out of the insurer's marketing budget. It does not raise your premium, and requesting a quote costs you nothing and does not enroll you in anything.
Because commissions exist, you should know the rule that governs them here. A commission can pay for the site's upkeep. It cannot buy a kinder description, a better position in a guide, or silence about a drawback. The full, formal version of this promise is on our disclosure page.
Our editorial rule
Facts come from insurer sources. When we describe how a policy works, what it covers, or what a term means in a specific plan, the source is the insurer's published policy documents and materials, not another website's summary of them. Where the industry shares a general pattern, we describe it as a general pattern and say so.
We do not publish prices, ratings, or rankings we cannot support with a source. When a number would mislead, such as a single premium figure for every pet, we leave it out and explain why instead. Policies and prices change, so we revisit guides on a regular cycle and correct them when the underlying documents change. If you spot something that looks wrong, it probably deserves a second look from us, and we would rather hear about it than leave it standing.
What we are not
- Not an insurance company. We do not underwrite policies or pay claims.
- Not an insurance agency or brokerage. We do not sell policies or earn anything from your premium itself.
- Not veterinarians. Nothing here is medical advice about your pet's care. That conversation belongs with your vet.
- Not advisors. Everything on this site is general information about how pet insurance works, never personalized insurance advice.
